Mr Aziz was referred to WIN in summer 2018. He had recently moved to Stockport and was keen to integrate into the local community to make friends and improve his language skills. Mr Aziz was particularly interested in voluntary work, as he wanted to give something back and gain new skills to help him find employment in the future. Mr Aziz had worked with asylum seekers in his home country and found it rewarding to help people less fortunate than himself. Sarah, Mr Aziz’s Wellbeing and Engagement Worker found a local men’s group where he could meet like-minded people and take part in social activities. Sarah introduced him to the group and went with him the first time to help ease his anxiety. Sarah also sourced a voluntary job at The Olive Branch in Edgeley, where Mr Aziz now volunteers his time two days per week, welcoming guests, making tea and coffee and providing a listening ear to those in need. Mr Aziz is happy to have achieved the goals he set out when he first started working with Sarah. He is proud of his role at the Olive Branch, his language skills have improved and he is a well-respected member of the local community.
